Tell us about yourself and your practice as an artist?

I'm an Art Director and a creative that loves design in all its expressions, i.e. art, music and film are my main inspirations. I seek to visually solve communication challenges.

What are your top five favorite films? Did any of those films influence who you are as an artist today?

There is one specific film and director that motivated me to study graphic design and apply it to video and that’s the masterpiece The Cook,The Thief, The Wife and Her Lover by Peter Greenaway. He was trained as visual artist and has a specific love for composition and graphic settings. I thought that graphic design, in all its variants, could give me an outlet for my creative process. I was specially drawn to video and motion graphics.

Other favorite movies are:

  • Any film by Michael Haneke, who is my favorite director;

  • In The Mood for Love by Wong Kar Wai.

  • Dogville by Lars Von Trier

  • A Single Man by Tom Ford

  • Fireworks by Takeshi Kitano

  • Merci pour le Chocolat by Claude Chabrol

What are you most excited about regarding this documentary project?

Working with Laila, learning more about Fazlur Rahman Khan and his work and creating the graphics for it! It is a beautiful challenge, a very rich subject and a talented director motivated me to join the project.

What is one thing you've been surprised to learn so far on this project?

That such an important and influential engineer had this very rich cultural background. Fazlur Rahman Khan achieved great success in the USA. Coming from South Asia, specifically Bangladesh, his talent and academic excellence made him reach great heights in his career and become a source of inspiration for many. He is an example of how dedication and intelligence are the tools to achieve your dreams.

Did you know much about architecture before starting this project? If you had to pick a favorite (or two) building in the world, what would it be and why?

Part of the education of a Graphic Designer is learning about Architecture because it is basically also about form and function. The Guggenheim NYC is one of my favorite, Guangzhou Opera House, by Zaha Hadid, Anything by Oscar Niemeyer, specially Brasilia.
